It is healthy to recognize death and discuss it realistically with friends and relatives. When a person dies, there is grief that needs to be shared. It is important that we share our grief with one another.
After all, grief shared is grief diminished. In this section of our website we have attempted to provide you with helpful guidance on grief issues. All categorized, we hope that we can provide insight and direction on where to turn. This area is always expanding so please visit back often for the information you seek.

PHOTOCERAMICS

Monday, 01 February 2016 09:38

Another option for personalizing the monument is to decorate it with a porcelain portrait of your loved one. We offer single or double portraits in either black and white or in colour with the background of your choice. We can also combine personal or religious images to create a unique personalized portrait. Alternatively, we provide the families we serve with shadow carvings. Shadow carving is a technique where photo portrait is etched on black granite.

OUR TECHNIQUE

Monday, 01 February 2016 09:38

A different methodology is used in our work of constructing monuments. We mostly work on granite as we find it to be a much more durable material of excellent beauty.

Our experience staff will guide you through the process of creating the monument that better represents the life of the deceased. First step is to create a 3D design of the proposed monument according to your wishes. Our design team will go through your ideas and our recommendations to create the design of the monument. This is done free of charge. Alternatively you can select a design from our library that suits your taste.

Through our wide variety of different granite materials you can choose the color that you like and then we will be able to quote for it.

One of the main advantages of using solid granite instead of slabs which are glued together is the extended durability provided by the granite itself, the beauty of the surface and that each and every monument will withstand the test of time.

IMPORTANCE OF A MONUMENT

Monday, 01 February 2016 09:38

Rituals and symbols give people strength – in particular when only memory lives on. A monument is a place of remembrance, a place to mourn and cope with grief. Therefore, not only the name and personal data of the deceased are made part of a tomb, but also information on his or her life and character. The monument not only is erected for a person, who has left this world, but should also help those of us who remain in this world to cope and heal. A good monument is able to preserve the identity of the deceased and keep his or her memory alive so that we remain connected with him or her beyond death. The monument turns the essence of a lived life into an enduring symbol. The comforting effect of a creative design lies in its expressiveness and its reference to the personality of the deceased – this enables the bereaved to accept the monument as a place for coping with their grief and healing the pain of their loss. With the design and realization of individual monument symbols we would like to contribute to making the grave a consoling place for reflection for the mourning and bereaved. We do this in complete awareness of the fact that we and our creating know-how and services can provide positive support to relatives and the bereaved in coping with their painful loss.

ENGRAVINGS

Monday, 01 February 2016 09:31

Our engraving work is something we are really proud of. We want families when selecting the ornaments and lettering to be engraved to be as personalized as possible thus giving a deeper meaning to the monument itself.

By using state of the art engraving machinery we are able to engrave on almost any surface and any design, even personal design created by individuals.

The process that we use is to prepare an engraving draft for the proposed monument where in detail we will be able to illustrate the position, size, type of engraving before realizing it to the stone.

This way we avoid any mistakes as the engraving draft is processed several times before actually being inscribed onto the stone.

G&P Melas is in position to offer engraving services for markers and monuments already erected in cemeteries. When adding engravings, we will match the existing engraving style. Granite or marble engraving, etching and lettering services to add either names or dates are provided on-site in the cemeteries. There is generally no need for the memorial to be removed.
